December 25, 2025 – Medellin, Cebu
It was a hot, humid day in Sitio Bangkal, Dayhagon, Medellin. The kind of weather where the air feels heavy, and sweat clings to the skin. Yet despite the heat, families gathered with anticipation, their faces lit with hope. On this Christmas Day, the community experienced the true spirit of the season—love, kindness, and joy—through the distribution of relief goods and Christmas packages.
The initiative was made possible by Healing in Harmony, NY, USA, a coalition of 24 New York-based organizations that raised funds for survivors of recent earthquakes and typhoons in Northern Cebu. The distribution was carried out by Blasert Force 568 Inc., led by its Founder and Chairman, Achilles “Kit” Coronel.
“We thought Christmas would pass us by”
For many residents, the day was filled with unexpected joy. “We thought Christmas would pass us by this year,” shared Rose, a mother of three whose home was damaged by the typhoon. “But when we received the packages, it felt like someone remembered us. My children smiled again, and that is the best gift I could ask for.”
Children, their hair damp from the humidity, clutched their packages tightly. Some tore them open with excitement, revealing food staples and small treats, while others held them close as if they were treasures. The simple items inside became symbols of care and compassion.
Volunteers braving the heat
Despite the sweltering weather, volunteers from Blasert Force 568 Inc. worked tirelessly to ensure every family received their share. Achilles “Kit” Coronel, who spearheaded the effort, emphasized the importance of bridging international generosity with local needs. “Healing in Harmony’s support shows how compassion can cross oceans. Our role is to make sure that this love reaches the people who need it most,” he said.
A coalition of compassion
Healing in Harmony’s coalition in New York represents diverse organizations united by a single purpose: to bring hope to communities in crisis. Their Christmas packages were more than relief goods—they were reminders that even in times of disaster, kindness can prevail.
A Christmas to remember
After the goods distribution, the community gathered in gratitude. Children played with newfound energy, parents exchanged smiles, and elders (seniors) whispered prayers of thanks. The celebration was modest, but it carried the essence of Christmas: love, kindness, and joy. For Sitio Bangkal, this Christmas will be remembered not for what was lost, but for what was given—the assurance that even in the hardest of times, compassion knows no boundaries.
Through their Purok Leader Marilou Ferolino, residents expressed their deepest gratitude to Healing in Harmony and Blasert Force 568 Inc.
