World Bamboo Day Global Celebration 2024.

Blasert Force 568 Inc., assisted by the United Guardians Brotherhood Emergency Response & Traffic International, Inc. (UGBERATII), in collaboration with the Cebu City Police Office – Advisory Group for Police Transformation & Development (CCPO – AGPTD) participated in the World Bamboo Day Global Celebration with a bamboo-planting activity at Ayala Heights, Brgy. Malubog, Cebu City on 21 September 2024.  This event was organized by the Cebu City Environment & Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) and Ayala Land Inc. together with the City Government of Cebu and in cooperation with the DENR Region 7 & City Agriculture Department (CAD).

World Bamboo Day is observed on September 18 in order to raise awareness about the conservation of this extremely useful plant. Conceptualized by the World Bamboo Organization (WBO), this day also promotes the bamboo industry by highlighting its concerns.

For some of us, the day started at 0500H with a trip to the planting site as advance forces to guide participants to the event.  Registration started at 0600H followed by a short program starting at 0700H with Mr. Jess Cavada as the master of ceremonies. A welcome remarks was delivered by Mr. Reymarr Z. Hijara, OIC-Head, CCENRO, followed with inspirational messages from City Councilor, Hon. Joel Garganera; DENR Region 7 represented by Mr. Luther Hernando and the Architect Yumi of the City Planning Development Office (CPDO).

A Basic bamboo-planting orientation was conducted by Forester Juan Pablo Yao, CCENRO’s Chief Operations Officer prior to the actual planting.  A total of around 300 participants joined the activity and planted 1,000 bamboo propagules.  More to come.
