Borbon, Cebu Earthquake Response – 05 October 2025
On 05 October 2025, Blasert Force 568 conducted a relief goods operation in response to the earthquake that struck Borbon, Cebu on 30 Sept. 2025. The operation commenced at 0300H and concluded at 2200H, aiming to deliver essential supplies and support to affected residents.
Timeline of Operations
0300H: Team assembly and briefing at staging area, Cebu City.
0400H: Convoy departure to Borbon, Cebu.
0800H: In Compostela. Traffic starts to build up starting from Liloan.
0900H: Just a short distance from Compostela, but it took an hour drive to arrive in Danao City.
1000H: Arrived Carmen. Stopped over at the Bus Stop terminal to get some relief and have breakfast. No bread available at the bakery so had to make do with the boiled eggs and noodles we brought with us to sustain. We were told by many travelers (including traffic enforcers) that the road is not passable in Catmon so we were advised to go back. We decided to push thru.
1030H: Super heavy traffic going to Catmon. Traffic is almost not moving. Many people started walking while others are turning back to Cebu City.
1230H: Finally had the chance to have lunch by the roadside carinderia in Catmon. No signal. Cellphone ran out of power.
1330: Arrived Sogod. Still heavy traffic with reports that Emi is not passable due to landslide. We turned right in Damolog after reports that we can pass thru via an alternative road temporarily constructed below the damaged bridge in Tabunok, Sogod.
1400H: Cmdr. Pacquit’s multicab carrying some relief goods got stuck in the mud. We stowed it with the Fortuner.
1445: Finally arrived in Poblacion, Borbon. We went straight to Del Mini-Mart owned by one of our officers, BF CPT Airen Areja.
1500H: Started un-loading the relief goods; Meeting with Borbon Command for situation reports/assessments. They just received their family food packs from the DSWD today so it was agreed that we defer the distribution of Blasert Force’s relief goods to next week while we continue to gather more support and donations.
1630H: Meeting with the owners of Del Mini-Mart. How do we move forward. Livelihood programs for our members. Some residents were also present to apprise us of their situations. Another aftershock felt.
1730H: Left for Cebu City. All are very tired with the lack of sleep, long drive, the heat.
1900H: Arrived Danao City. Strong winds and heavy rains experienced.
2100H: Arrived HQ, had dinner and took some rest.
2200H: Had some sleep

4. Challenges Encountered
Super heavy traffic. Intermittent power outages affected communications.
Many families are sleeping in open areas. Need more tents (sakoline) to avoid getting wet from the rain. Children are the most vulnerable, being exposed to the changing hot & cold weather conditions.
More relief goods supplies are needed.
5. Coordination and Support
Blasert Force 568 worked closely with DEL Mini-mart and our local command in Borbon. Our aim is to distribute directly to the affected families in targeted Barangays/Sitios.
6. Recommendations and Next Steps
Continue donation/solicitation campaigns to obtain more relief goods.
Focus in acquiring tents/trapal (sakoline) as most donations are in the form of food, water.
Common medicines for fever, cough and colds
Conduct further needs assessment for shelter (re-construction) and livelihood support.
Strengthen logistics and transportation for remote barangays thru our local command.
We are going back again in the area on Saturday/Sunday to hopefully distribute more relief goods and tents.
Many thanks to all who participated and donated.
